Ernestine Shepherd is a miracle, as far as inspirational stories go. In 2010, at the age of 80, she became one of the world’s oldest female bodybuilders. She only started exercising at the age of 56, proving it is never too late for changes. Her lack of earlier activity can be explained by the unfortunate fact that she sustained an injury in a car accident as a child. She started exercising with her sister Violet since they both enjoyed junk food. Ernestine admits that, back then, she believed working out might make her appear less feminine, therefore she was not as into it as her sister.
She struggled with depression and panic attacks after her sister’s death, but, in time, she was motivated by an old dream to end up in the Guinness’ Book of World Records.
Today, this amazing grandma runs about 130 km per week, follows a healthy diet, looks and feels amazing. The secret to her success is never to give up, but she also doesn’t underestimate the great support of her family.
